Website Design And SEO Can Pretty Much Go Hand In Hand

Web design and seo have a very grave relationship and one needs to be acquainted with both to make his/ her web portal both eye catching for the web users and easy for the search engines to index and rank. The emergence of professional SEO marketers has made it possible for virtually any web portal to feature in the top searches on the major search engines.

The best part is where you optimize your web portal without compromising on the attractiveness and design of the specific web portal. The very foremost concern is that you can never ignore the design faade of a web portal as it also holds imminent connotation. It will be wise on your part to make sure you are well versed with web design and SEO at the same time and invest in both of them because: – they can assist you in flaunting yourself at the top ranks in search engine result pages (SERP) when someone types in a particular keyword related to your trade.

It also makes certain that your online presence is expanded to an unprecedented level and quality, organic traffic is drove on to your web portal in huge volume. This will also incessantly generate business specific leads and in no time your sales will reach a new high. This should also go as a relief, if you are involved in pay per clicks and other PPC programs. The guaranteed high ROI (Return on Investment) should motivate you to take up web design and SEO to a completely new level. Web design of your site should not pose a hindrance in the way of search engine optimization.

Those business entities that have a powerful and resourceful web site of their own; you should be very likely to fix it with actual personalized contented and not taking into account the design hindrance that comes in your way. Even if you have allowed your web site to take care of the more accessible genus of the World Wide Web, it should still possibly be created as a thoughtful and recognizable expansion of one’s enterprise. The explanations for doing so will be authorized, and cannot only just be unnoticed for the sake of achieving an initial time alignment.

Mark the words Web design is as essential to a business as seo is. The primary backbone about search engine optimization can be augmented with SEO friendly web design (exclusion of flash, etc) and the web site will be designed in such a manner that search engine crawlers can optimize the web portal with utter ease. And, you may not be alone amid those that have that sad thought-If I do this all Search engine optimization collectively and attain major ranking generally; people might deem that my site is consequently stale and unexciting.

This is an altogether wrong notion harboring in many a mind right now. Whether you are a fortune 500 company or a recent start up SEO can give your business the much needed online presence and proper web design will help you connect with your customers.

SEO and Website Design – Better Together

Search Engine Optimization, or seo, is a relatively new concept in the world of web design, but if you want a successful, profitable website, it’s something you cannot ignore. Competition for rankings on popular search engines like Google is fierce, and without SEO, your website is at a huge disadvantage. So when exactly, in the process of setting up your new website, should you seek an SEO specialist? The short answer: the sooner the better.

Ideally, you should consult with an seo expert before you meet with your web designer, since your idea or vision of what you want in your website might not be seo friendly at all. For example, a flashy site with lots of sound and graphics does nothing for improving your rankings on the search engines. Reviewing the basics with an seo company early on can save you endless heartache and expense down the road.

The next step – when presenting your ideas to a designer, you should also include your seo expert. If it is not feasible to all meet in person, a phone conference can easily be arranged. Some designers might try to convince you that they are SEO knowledgeable, but it is truly better to hire a separate company to handle SEO matters, as it is very unlikely that web designers have the time to stay up to date on the constantly changing details of the seo world.

A good way to proceed with the design is to arrange in advance points at which your seo expert will check back on the website’s progress. That way, you are ensuring that your site is seo friendly at each stage of the game, and you avoid wasting time and money by having your designer re-design parts of your site later on.

Finally, make sure your seo expert is involved in the final review process before you seal the deal. Corrections are often much more expensive when done after the site is launched.

By involving an SEO expert from the start of your web design, you are giving your site a huge advantage of being optimized from day one, which of course, exponentially increases your chances for profit and success.

Web Pages That Suck – This So Does Not Suck!

A common question that comes up:

“What’s the difference between web design and graphic design?”

The answer:

Graphic Design tends to be with layout, with print, or has to do with logos. It has to do a bit with spatial design. Web Design is the same.

The main difference (and it’s a big one!!!) is the user psychology is different.

Someone looking at a can of coke has a different psychology than someone looking at a website. Web user psychology is a whole different ballgame people.

A great analogy of user psychology I like to reference which helps people “get it” is road rage. You could be the sweetest person in the world, but you get behind a car and some M’F'er cuts you off and you are a sailor’s worst nightmare. Something about cars. Something about the isolation. About being anonymous.

Being behind a computer is the same. There is a whole different psychology there. People expect to find things quickly (and more often than not for free too!).

That being said, Web Usability is a huge huge topic that requires a lot of research and studying if you want to be a really good web designer. There are equations, math, and psychology all involved.

However, if you want some light (and fun!) reading, the very best reference I can recommend is “Web Pages That Suck“.

They take a look at actual sites that are designed poorly and explain WHY they are designed poorly. And sometimes it’s quite humorous. Sometimes it’s humorous especially if you’ve been a web developer for some time because you KNOW you’ve committed these same errors!

This is a really fantastic series of books. I can’t recommend it enough. If you have a web designer friend, this is the perfect book. It’s a great combination of humor and a lot of great web usability/web psychology lessons all rolled into a nice big colorful book! Go check it out!

Search Engine Optimization and Its Importance in Website Designing

SEO or Search Engine Optimization starts with the process of making the website search engine friendly by enhancing the quality of website to target useful traffic to the website from major SEs like Google, Yahoo and Bing. If a website is designed as per the seo techniques, its more likely to achieve top rankings in shorter time as compared to the website that are not designed with basic SEO factors and needs to be changed as per the requirement.

The process of SEO mainly starts with the planning and designing of a website and it involves necessary seo steps which helps the website to get rank in the top results of search engines for desired keywords.

Importance of Search Engine Optimization:

Around 75% of the websites available on Internet get their major share of traffic from SEs, this traffic is known as organic or natural traffic and all of the above this traffic free and utmost quality as the visitors have searched for the terms on SEs and landed on your website. SEs are therefore the primary source of information on the websites. Most of these sites are on the top 10 SERPs of the searches performed by Search engines for the desired keyword. It is therefore very essential to get ranked in the top page of the major SEs to attain necessary traffic and quality visitor to your website.

Strategies on search engine Optimization (SEO):

search engine optimization is the process of converting your site to search engine comfortable. The major steps involved in SEO are as follows:

On-Page Optimization – In on-page SEO process website pages are optimized with the most useful and relevant keywords by creating Title, Meta tags, content optimization, adding alt texts, header tags, etc. Internal linking of the site pages also plays an important role in proper navigation for the visitors. Creation of robots.txt file, HTML and XML sitemap is also important steps of on-page seo process.

Off Page Optimization – In Off Page Optimization, the website is promoted through other websites by performing quality and relevant link building, that can be done in many ways like – link exchange (one-way, reciprocal), directory submissions, article syndication, press release submissions, social media
marketing, etc.

If a website is designed in such a way that it supports all the basic and advanced seo factors then the chances of getting top rankings on major search engines increases a lot. The visitors coming to the website will feel more comfortable and their probability of conversion also increase.

Your Questions About Web Design Classes

Mark asks…

Does anyone know of any good certified online web design classes?

I’m interested in taking some online web classes, hopefully to earn a certificate in web development. I have a BS in computers and a masters degree and have programmed using HTML, CSS, and some Javascript. I am looking for an accredited program that offers professional level courses in web development using the latest tools. Any recommendations?

webdesignerscotty answers:

As I know, this site has top listing of such college courses online – schools.iblogger.org

Ruth asks…

Can you take web design and graphic design classes at the same time?

Is it possible to take web design and graphic design classes at the same time? Also, for schools like “The Art Institute”, how many classes can you take?

webdesignerscotty answers:

One deals with web page design, the other deals with graphic design. There is a difference.  Web user psychology is a lot different than other user psychology.  I think studying both is fine, but it might be better to specialize in one and be “aware” of the other.

Mandy asks…

What is the best order in which to take web design classes?

I want to take dreamweaver, flash, photoshop, and whatever else i can find. Is there a certain order I should take the courses in?

webdesignerscotty answers:

Take the programming language courses… DW is only an extension, a WYSIWYG.

XHTML(HTML)/CSS
Photoshop
Flash
PHP/MySQL

That should be enough to keep you busy for quite some time.

Learn the NEWEST in web technologies, not old, archaic, and monolithic ways to do things like;

Tables are NOT for layouts. Tables are for tabular data.
Web Standards is a good thing and can be your friend.
There are easier and better ways to build sites too.  I personally LOVE WordPress (the site you’re looking at right now is a WordPress site!)

Good Luck.

Lisa asks…

graphic design & web design Classes in New Jersey?

I’m a freelance graphic designer and am interested in taking a couple classes as a refresher. Im located in Central New Jersey and would want to take Graphic Design & Web Design. Preferably for Photoshop, Dreamweaver and flash. Any suggestions on where to go?

webdesignerscotty answers:

I looked around and asked around.  If you want to take classes purely to learn the programs (not to learn any design), I would suggest www.essexcomputers.com. They are located in Clifton, NJ. I took flash classes there.

If you want to learn design, take classes at one of the art schools in NYC. The School of Visual Arts has great continuing education classes.

I would be wary of trying to take classes that teach you both – they are two different things. The program classes are hands on and you are learning the ins and outs of the program. The design classes are usually discussion classes in the classroom, and you take work home to explore.

Hope this helps! Contact me if you need more info!

Sandra asks…

What are some good online web and graphics design classes?

What are some good online web and graphics design classes? Have you had experience and do you suggest them. Please give url’s if possible.

webdesignerscotty answers:

Online: W3schools.com
I also search for different codes as I use them and then try them and attempt to memorize. No cheatsheets for me anymore. =)

Linda asks…

Photography or web design classes in Raleigh Durham, NC?

I just moved to this area and would like to take some classes during my free time. Possibly photography and web or graphic design. I’ve looked into WakeTech but that’s about all I found. Any other local colleges or organizations? Thanks!!!

webdesignerscotty answers:

I have friends in NC!  :)   If not Wake Tech then maybe Durham Tech?

NC State might…but that’s more of a four-year university program.

Donald asks…

web design and graphic design classes?

My friend told me that if I take graphic design classes, then it’s the same as learning web design, since they are together. I wanted to verify if this is true.

Also, I wanted to know if there are separate classes for them.

webdesignerscotty answers:

You do need the design skills of graphic design but the two are completely different that need completely different classes to learn. web design is the making of websites. People often think that to make a website, you just place a few pictures here & there & add text in places etc… But a website is entirely created by codes, you will have to learn how to understand & type these codes both manually and using the Dreamweaver software. It is very technical to make a website. But these days, graphic design employees look for designers who have an understanding of web design so they are related but they aren’t the same. graphic design is more designing artwork for companies/ events/ brands etc. Like business cards, posters, logos, CD & DVD cover artwork, package design, magazines, flyers etc. So hopefully you can see they are two entire different fields of the design industry.

Michael asks…

What online programming and web design classes are reputable?

webdesignerscotty answers:

I was just checking out this site: www.learnvisualstudio.net

costs $30.00

What Questions Can I Ask My Website Designer?

What is a Domain Name and why do I need it?
A Domain Name is the unique www web address that visitors type to get to your website. Think of it in the same sense as your physical address and that in the same way they find your house, they use your domain to find your website. An example is my own website, to find it people need to type in my domain name to find it. It is mandatory to have a domain name.

Can I have any Domain Name?
A Domain Name must be available and not taken or registered by anyone else for you to have it.

Who owns the Domain Name?
After you register the domain name of your choice from ICANN – Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the people responsible for registering all domain names on the Internet, you will own this for the stipulated length of time as per your registration contract.

What is Hosting, and what do I get?
All websites require hosting, it is a bit like paying rent for your house except this time you are paying someone to have their computer on 24/7 and for you to store your website files on it so they can be accessed worldwide at anytime by anyone visiting your website. This is called a hosting server, you could do this yourself but it would mean leaving your PC on all the time and always connected to the Internet. Not worth it for the average person due to time and costs from your ISP and power companies. Let the experts do the website hosting for you for pennies a day.

Other Relevant Questions

How long will it take for my Website to go live?
If you use DIY website design it will be as quick as you can make it since you will take full control of this process. If you arrange for a bespoke website design plan your website designer will need you to provide all the relevant materials quickly (logos, content, contact details, sales copy etc) so they can put all these together ASAP and have your website ready and live in a few days.

What kind of support do I get afterwards?
Should you have any issues, queries or problems you need to know what sort of support you can reasonably expect to get. Are they available to help at all times or only working hours? Can you email or call them when you need to?

What length of Contract would I have to commit to?
Do they tie you in for any set periods?

What guarantee is available for any services you buy? Is it money back and for how long?

If you already have a Website which needs updating, can they help?

Are they a website doctor? Can they redesign your Website? Does this save you on the costs by simply fixing what’s already there?

Will your Website be ‘Search Engine’ friendly and show up in the search engines?

If you are a small one man business and would like to do better in your local area. Can they help or will bypass you in favour of bigger clients?

Are there any hidden costs?

Can you have an area of your website reserved for customers only?

Can you have an autoresponder to capture website visitors’ details?

Who owns the Copyright?
Will all your intellectual property and other assets and trademarks remain intact?

How would you update my Website?
Most websites come with CMS or content management system as standard these days. Will they show/train you how to use this so you can take control and change or update your website when you want to? This saves you time and money.

What if you are not an expert with computers?
If you can use Microsoft Word you can operate most CMS systems make sure you are clear about this before being hit with maintenance bills.

Can you get email with your Website?
All websites come with mailboxes for you and your staff and in some cases you can have an unlimited number of email mailboxes for your website. Be clear about this.

Can you forward my email to Yahoo/Hotmail/Gmail?
This can be arrange for email forwarding for you using the control panel that comes with your website. Ask your provider about this.

Can I see how many visitors my Website gets?
They should provide you with a stats program of some sort. If not ask to get Google analytics hooked up to your website.

What will a Website cost me?
Make sure you agree all costs upfront and avoid nasty surprises down the line.

Do you display ‘banners’ or ‘pop-up ads’ on my Website and share in my website revenue?
Some website designers do this. Make sure you are clear on this one and every other point in this article.

Your Questions About How To Blog For Free

William asks…

How to bring more visitors to my blog. Or whats the easy way to get more traffic to my blog. Free traffic?

I am looking for adsense blogging. Can some one suggest me how to bring a bit of more traffic on my blog?

webdesignerscotty answers:

Create great content. Everything starts with content. Give a reason why visitors will frequent your site. Why will they want to read your blog? Why will they want to spend their time in your blog? Provide value, useful information and other benefits to the readers.

As you have found, creating a blog is one thing but getting traffic is whole different story. Getting traffic is going to be your biggest challenge.  Basically anywhere where you can post a link to your site do it.  Check out this article

Jenny asks…

Is it possible to have an affiliate marketing blog that is free, and still earns you money?

Or do I need to pay for a more ‘professional’ blog domain?

Also: Is it worth it to be an affiliate marketer? How much could I earn with a free blog, working part-time on it, and not paying anything to increase my blog search rankings? Is running an affiliate marketing blog a worthwhile thing (financially) to do when I can only do it part-time – or is it something that needs a full time worker?

webdesignerscotty answers:

If you are just starting out and don’t have a budget to get a domain name and hosting then I would suggest doing a combination of building websites on places like wordpress.com and also submitting relevant articles on places like ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, and more.

This should be a good start to help you learn more about internet marketing as it takes awhile to get used to all of the tips and tricks involved to make a large profit. I have personally known people who are making $100+ a day without having their own website which isn’t huge money but to many it is a great extra income.

David asks…

Which free blog service is the best?

Which free blog service is the best and why?
I would like to know how the features are and whether it is good for SEO etc. Thanks.

webdesignerscotty answers:

Heya !!

There are a couple free sites where you can start blogs like:
Wordpress.com
Blogspot.com
Typepad.com

The problem with these free ones is that you are not in total control of SEo,layout or content that gets approved.

I can honestly recommend buying your own .com domain and hosting and setting up a blog on there. It will cost $10 a year for the domain and $5 a month for hosting. It will be strange if you cannot make $100 a year from your blog to cover those costs, so that means your blog will cost you nothing :)
