James asks…
what is the best site to build to make money online through blogging, affilitate ads, google ad sense?

webdesignerscotty answers:
Just saw this blog. The guys over at http://www.internetgangsters.com have started documenting their experiences with different affiliate programs and adsense and stuff like that. It’s really interesting to read.

Maria asks…

please help me

webdesignerscotty answers:
Adsense is a way to monetize and earn money from your site by putting Google ads from their advertising network Adwords. It has been around since June 2003 and Adsense has allowed many website owners to earn from their sites. I highly recommend going through the Adsense Quick Tour to learn more about the program http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/index.html
HOW DOES IT WORK
You apply and once you get approved, you can put in the Adsense code in your site. Here are the instructions on how to add Adsense codes on your site https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=10192&topic=8434
You earn through various ways:
1. Pay per click – this is the common way to earn which is you earn every time a visitor clicks on your ads
2. Pay per impression – an advertiser can specifically target your site and show ads where you earn via cost per 1,000 impression (e.g. You earn every time someone sees your ad, even though they don’t click on it)
3. Adsense for feeds
4. Adsense for mobile
5. Adsense for search
WHAT PERSONAL INFO DO I HAVE TO GIVE?
In the application form https://www.google.com/adsense/g-app-single-1 you will give
- your name
- your address
- if your country qualifies for electronic fund transfer and you wish to be paid by EFT, your bank details
- your SSN or tax account number if you are in the US as Google reports Adsense income to the IRS
IS IT WORTH IT AND HOW MUCH MONEY PER MONTH DOES IT BRING IN?
Some sites do very well with Adsense (even in the millions of dollars a year) while many more sites do extremely poorly with the program (can’t even earn $10 a month). One of the misconception people have about Adsense is they simply slap it in their websites and it will automatically earn them big money — which is not true as evidenced by the many disgruntled webmasters
Your income will depend on:
- the topic of your site (if you have high paying keywords you stand to earn more)
- responsiveness of users to ad (are visitors coming to your site with blinders in their eye or do they look at the ads as additional complementary resource)
- traffic (you earn more with more traffic, even if you have low paying keywords or other metrics)
- how you implement the ads on your site (some positions and colors work better than others)
I suggest you join the program (you’ve got nothing to lose as it is free) and see how your site will do with it.

Paul asks…
How can I earn money thro blogging? Is it a must 2 b 18 yrs of age 4 any affiliate program like 4 Google Adsens?
Please suggest other ways of making money for a teenager from home. Suggest other affiliate programmes to earn money. Please help me out.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Yes. You must be 18 for qualifying for Google Adsense. There are many other working methods to earn online even if you are under 18.
For more details, check
http://www.paidsurvey4indians.blogspot.com/
Also many internet marketers always need cheap article writers (even me!) at about $2 per article.

Robert asks…
Best path to making money blogging?
In addition to my summer job I plan to make some money this summer through blogging, primarily about cars. I have a few questions:
1. What non-Google-owned sites can I blog on that have revenue sharing?
2. What sites other than Digg, Reddit, and then smaller sources (IE: 1000 or so Youtube friends) can I use to generate traffic for my blog?
3. I have online banking from my bank to my savings account. Is it possible for me to simply link these revenue-sharing funds directly to my savings account?
Thanks for the help.

webdesignerscotty answers:
If you want to choose a blogging platform other then blogger.com then go with WordPress.org, the open source, buy a domain and web hosting and get started.
See this: Effective ways to make money from Blogging

Lizzie asks…
whats the best blogging website to make money?
Examples google blogs, problogger, wordpress

webdesignerscotty answers:
Try to avoid the data entry and survey sites as most of them are scams. If you are interested in taking surveys for extra income (it wont be much.). Don’t pay for a list of survey
companies go straight to the source.

Your Questions About Learn Html Code

Linda asks…
Is there a good site on the internet where i can learn HTML Code.?
Im looking for a good website where i can learn HTML code. Books are nice but i need a website.

John asks…
How can i learn How to HTML Code?
Im 13 years old and i have Great ideas for Games and sites But i don’t know how to HTML code. I want to learn to code Sites like Sploder.com like drag and drop game making sites.
I know theres some books and sites out there to learn. But i cant find any could you recommend some to me?

webdesignerscotty answers:
I’m just like you, same age except I’ve already learned HTML. I’ve been to sploder and the games are all flash. I don’t know much about flash but I do know that there are books for it but to make flash programs, it costs money. Now HTML, a book that I highly recommend is Head First HTML & CSS. It is very easy to learn whatever subject the book is about (I learned Javascript when I was only 11). Actually, all the Head First books are fantastic. The website of these books is http://headfirstlabs.com/ . Note that HTML is free to code and doesn’t cost money because no company owns it. Adobe owns Flash. Also, there are some tutorials that you can use online but the book is much better. Good Luck.

Carol asks…
How long it takes to learn and master HTML code/language?
Well i’ve heard that you can get up to 3, 000 euros for one site, I mean it really sells good in US and EU, so how long it takes to master it?
I’ve heard the basics of language are easy to learn.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Like a day from w3schools, here’s the link: http://w3schools.com/html/default.asp
..you need more languages to make a good website, like php, css, javascript, etc. All these are on that website, but those languages will take a lot longer to learn. HTML can be used to make a simple website though.

Susan asks…
What is the easiest way to remember HTML code?
Need to know the fastest, most efficient way to learn HTML code and the best way to fully retain what I have learned.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Unless you are talking about a test in school, the best thing to do is make yourself a “cheat sheet” in a simple text program and save it to disk or flash drive. Include all the things you would usually do and maybe a few java scripts too. Then all you have to do is copy, and paste keying in the variations and options.
I would hate to have to key in every character needed in html. I’ll cut, copy, and paste whenever possible.

Daniel asks…
How much html code should I learn?
Hi, I’m currently learning html/css and planning on learning other web scripting languages, but I’m not sure how in depth I should learn them. I want to be able to design a website with multiple pages and I want to be able to do it really professionally without the help of dreamweaver or frontpage. The problem is I’m not sure how in depth I should learn these such as memorizing attribute codes and the like. I don’t want to do a bunch of useless memorization, but I also don’t want to not memorize things that will be important later. Another issue I have is that I’m not sure what to learn after I’m done getting really good with html/css it’s going to be a while before I have to learn other scripting languages, but I want to know where I have to go from there any advice would be helpful thanks to any answers.

webdesignerscotty answers:
If web design is something you plan on doing seriously learning html and css is fundamental. Rather than memorizing attributes I have a file with all the attributes and selectors that I can constantly refer to and copy and paste into my document as needed. I can then modify small details required for the site I’m working on. Javascript and JQuery are useful to learn after the basics, as well as PHP and even Action script if you plan to use flash. Keep in mind that html and css are evolving with HTML 5 and CSS3 being adopted as standards in the near future.

Ruth asks…
How long would I have to study programming until I could make my own custom internet forum?
I’ve had a couple courses on C/C++ in college but I’ve never written any programs of practical import. I don’t know much about web programming other than a little html and very basic javascript. For example, how low long would it take to make something like the lernu forum: http://en.lernu.net/komunikado/forumo/index.php ?

webdesignerscotty answers:
To make dynamic web sites (i.e. One which sends the data to the server and by looking at the data the server produces the website pages.) you can learn ASP.NET and J2EE. Between them I recommend you to learn ASP.NET because it is simple and easy to use then J2EE. But both these languages need a knowledge in other languages also.
Like ASP.NET requires some other .Net language(like VB.NET or C#.NET) and J2EE requires knowledge of J2SE. So choose wisely.
It takes atleast 4 – 5 months to learn VB.NET+ASP.NET or J2SE+J2EE.
Oh one more thing, if you’re learning web programming some knowledge of HTML and CSS is a must. So learn them before you learn any ASP.NET or J2EE or you can also take some help from a web designer.
Also Database knowledge is also required if have to store information about your customers or users, etc.
As you’re a beginner it will take 1 yr or some more months to develop an efficient website.
After then you can think of to make an Internet forum because at this time you’ll know basics of how to create a website and how to design them so you can concentrate on the logic of how to create these things. Although there are much more video tutorials available on the internet to create some websites. You can use these helps.
Try to gain some experience on web technologies before creating an Internet Forum.

Thomas asks…

Any suggestions will b appreciated

If you need free one’s than phpBB is the best.
In paid, vbulletin is the best.

William asks…
Why would Yahoo spend so much time and programming resources to build Yahoo Answers? It’s just a web forum…

webdesignerscotty answers:
It’s a lot more friendly than the typical web forums. The design is more intuitive, and it is more graphically driven than most others are.
Plus, it’s a great push towards their portal strategy. First, there was just email and IM. Then there were groups — not a significant step above the alt.net groups, but with a different format. Now there’s Yahoo 360 — you can blog here as well. And, with answers…maybe you’ll spend all of your time here, which means they get more traffic, which means the advertisers pay more money…

Nancy asks…
Is there a program that allows you to download an entire web page forum to your hard drive?
I have a forum that I frequent, and would like to know if there is anyway to download the entire site so that I could review it offline, or even burn to a CD or DVD. I’m on a machine with vista, but if needed I have access to Mac and XP as well.
Thanks for your help.

webdesignerscotty answers:
You need a website ripper that has an offline browser.
I couldn’t tell you which is best, but google it and you can probably find some free ones.

Coding & Web Dev Forum Needs Moderator!!!?
Need someone good with programming/web development to be a moderator on http://www.babydev.com

http://www.babydev.com/viewtopic.php?p=330#330

webdesignerscotty answers:
After a brief review of the site, I have been disappointed in the postings of the web site. Seems like more of a soap box rather than actual helpful coding. I would suggest having people post more actual code and snippets to the site before anyone would be interested in the site. As far as needing an admin, I personally don’t have the time but you might want to look into joomla, a web based content management product that allows multiple user administration and ease of use.

Where can I make my own web page?
I need to make my own online business web page. Are there any sites where I can post a lot of pictures, add pay pal, have a lot of space, and get my own domain for free? I’m kinda short on money and I need at least a place i can start off, but I want my own domain. So where can I get that for free?

webdesignerscotty answers:
Even though the appeal of “free” is good, it is still actually cheap to get your own website. In short. No; the only “free” websites are from the likes of freewebs or something, the best way to do this would be:
1) get your own domain (about $10 per year @ godaddy)
2) create a website using some software, I think coffeecup.com do a free builder but failing that search google for free website building software.
3) get a free hosting account (try http://jgiff.net). Or pay for one about $10 a month. I prefer bluehost or hostmonster.
4) upload Your site, add your domain and you are done.

Donna asks…

Your Questions About Learn Html5

Lisa asks…
Do you know a good book, dvd or website to help learn html5?
Hi I want to learn the latest html5 coding is there any good books, videos or websites that explains the new coding language? Any help would be appreciated.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Youtube surprsingly has a lot of good tutorials

Robert asks…
What are some good websites to learn HTML5?
I know HTML4 quite well so I’m not looking for a tutorial site on basic HTML so don’t give me any links to w3schools.com or htmltutorial.com or anything like that. I’ve seen a lot of new features come out of HTML5. Not the least of which being the new and tags. I’m quite impressed with what I’ve seen done with them already and I would like to learn more about coding around HTML5.

webdesignerscotty answers:
HTML5 is still a working standard so you aren’t very likley to find any sites to learn it, although Apple does have an excellent showcase of HTML5
http://www.apple.com/html5/

Charles asks…
Should I still learn flash or wait for HTML5 tutorials?
I’m still interested in being a web designer, but would like to know whether or not I should learn flash since HTML5 is starting to become more prevalent in the future. Also, is there any other skills I need to learn? I’ve already know HTML, CSS, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I might try to learn some JavaScript too but don’t want to get involved with programming languages since I’m not good with object oriented programming.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Go for HTML 5… Flash was good in its day, but the latest versions have many problems.

George asks…
Should i learn Flash, or just skip ahead and start learning HTML5 or whatever is said to replace it?
as above.

webdesignerscotty answers:
HTML5 is not full supported by all browser, and all browsers have different behaviors with the same HTML5 script.
Is good idea learn HTML5, but Flash have a more avanced languaje (ActionScript 3) that is based in C and is supported by all the browsers, include now Mac, ipad and iPhone..
How you can see, there are a idea for each user. I recommended to you learn the two languajes: HTML5 and ActionScript 3.

Helen asks…
Do I need to learn HTML5 for website content creation?
I manage a website; the content side of things and I’m wondering about the implications of HTML 5. For my job, I know a little bit about HTML to tweak templates and layout; and also to resolve display bugs. I occasionally embed flash objects, which means I play around with source code. This is all managed by a CMS.
I don’t actually make templates or do any complex web development.
Do I need to learn HTML5 to proficiently do my job once its released?

webdesignerscotty answers:
I doubt it will be strictly necessary, however, I do think it would be a good idea, especially since you already know enough HTML to tweak templates and layouts. In addition, if your job ever changes, or you need to get a new job, the more you know, the better chance you’ll have of not being left behind.
The best way to learn, in my opinion, is to start with some basics and look at existing code. You can download free, open source HTML5 templates from freehtml5templates.com and also check out the HTML5 Quick Learning Guide there. You can probably pick up the knowledge you need in a day or two of studying, so I think it’s worth it to have that background if you ever need it.

Your Questions About Web Design

Jenny asks…
web design?
Hi, I’m want to learn web design but dont have the money to do a course right now. What web site can i go onto to start learning how to design web sites? What would be the best course to learn web design?
Many Thanks
Hatty

webdesignerscotty answers:
Go to: http://www.how-to-build-websites.com/
Use the navigation at left to view lessons.
I would recommend getting an HTML editor, if you don’t already have one, so you don’t have to do the coding yourself.

David asks…
web design?
I would like to know where i can find a good and cost effective web design company to design my business website? thank you.

webdesignerscotty answers:
You can try using a site like Elance.com. You just post the project (describe what you need) and then web designers can “bid” to win your project. The prices are competitive since they want to get the project instead of the other designers.
No matter who you hire, be sure to look carefully over their portfolio and reviews (in this case, both are available on Elance).

Joseph asks…
web design???
I want to get into web design…I’m a fantastic artist and I’m great in the technical field as well. I can’t afford to go back to school right now, but is there anything else I could do to break out into the industry? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Goto www.elance.com, there are all kinds of freelance projects up for bid, try a small project, see how it goes. If you start doing work people like, via a site like that, you’ll start getting more business.
Getafreelancer.com is good too.
Craigslist is good too.

Chris asks…
What are the differences between web design and graphic design and which career should I choose?
I am currently a junior in high school (also taking classes at the local college to get ahead) and want to have a career in some sort of computer based designing, but I can’t choose. The two I’m mainly considering are web design and graphic design. I personally would prefer being in graphic design, but I hear that the income isn’t that great, and I’m not that creative or decisive, so I’m leaning towards web design. I’m just not that sure, though.
I’m trying to find out class and skill requirements, annual salary, and maybe more details about each career. Also personal input would be great, too!

webdesignerscotty answers:
web design is pretty much what it sounds like- it’s designing for the internet, whether it’s creating websites or working in programs like Flash. Also, you do have to be some what creative when designing websites, but I know some web design majors who prefer the coding part rather than the design part.
Graphic design is designing mostly for print, with some designing for the web (ex: banner ads). In graphic design you can do numerous things like working on layouts for magazines, creating logos or designing packaging for consumer goods.
As far as income goes, it all depends on where you live, how much experience you have and what your job title is. A junior designer obviously won’t be making as much as a senior designer or an art director. You’ll just have to do some of your own research to figure out how much a graphic designer makes versus a web designer.
I will tell you from personal experience that there does seem to be a lot more web design jobs out there. I majored in graphic design and although I enjoy what I do, its been really tough finding a full-time job, but hopefully the economy will get better soon!

Sharon asks…
How can I become a web design teacher in a community college?
I want to teach web design in a local community college. So far I have my associated degree. I am also in the web design business and have been for years. What do I need to do to become a web design teacher?

webdesignerscotty answers:
You will need your master’s degree to teach at a community college. It might be good to try to land a tutoring job at a community college while you work on completing your education. This way by the time you are certified to teach at this level, you already have some experience working with college level students and you may have your foot in the door.
Good luck.

Paul asks…
How hard is it to break into the web design industry?
From the time I was eleven I’ve been into designing websites. Now I’m eighteen years old and looking into pursing web design as a career.I’m not stupid,I know that what I know about web design now isn’t nearly enough to get a job with.I’m planning on either going to college or taking a course on web design, but before I can make this kind of choice I need to know:
Is it difficult to break into the web design industry, even with proof of college or college level education and a portfolio?

webdesignerscotty answers:
Not hard
Start by learning HTML
http://www.w3schools.com/html/DEFAULT.asp
then go to java, flash, php, peral, CGI-bin, and all others lol

Richard asks…
What web design software can I use that is compatible with both mac and windows?
I am new web design, I am using smart space by Go Daddy but really don’t like it. I would love to find the right web design software (studio) to use and then just upload to Go Daddy with a FTP client. Please help? Thank you very much.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Aptana Studio is very good, free version contains almost everything you need for writing a good website.

Mark asks…
What web design platform or software can I use to design websites like iGoogle or My Yahoo?
What web design platform or software can I use to design websites like iGoogle or My Yahoo i.e. websites (e.g.homepage) that can be modular in design and blocks can be moved around or replaced by the user? The user has a choice of modules to add to homepage and decides what to add or remove on their web page?

webdesignerscotty answers:
It is a real hard thing to say being those examples are fully developed applications for the most part. To build the base yourself you would have to look into a web development language like Ruby, PHP, ASP, or etc. I would recommend PHP or Ruby for the open source community behind them. Then using a framework and MVC pattern to structure your code and make things easier. (i.e. Rails or Zend)
Now their are a few open source platforms created already you can install, but none offer the complete solution really. If you want basic functionality and something easy to use I would look into the PHP solution of WordPress, Drupal, or CMS Made Simple. You can customize these to do what you want with less code and maybe some prebuilt plugins but they will not be as clean or nice as building your own.
Then lastly when it comes down to designing your modules and pages you should look at just using your typical design software from Adobe or the open source programs GIMP or so forth. Just plan out what you want your application to do before you being and keep that in mind while actually designing the modules. If you lose sight of the end scope you could box yourself in with a design that does not function modularly.
Sorry for possibly stating things that were not needed but I wanted to cover most bases in case the information was not known.
EDIT: I forgot to add the information about the Front-End Interface. Both those sites use what is called AJAX, which is basically using JavaScript to reload and send data to code in the back end to return results to the front page so that the user never has to leave his current page, if you google this you will find many resources and there are even a couple frameworks for this like JQuery and MooTools.

how to Learn Web Desingning online for free?
I have some basic knowledge in HTML and know some basics in Java. I want to add Web Designing to my computer skills, so i want to learn it (both layout designing and client-server programming) not just the HTML/JAVA, but other technologies such as php, scripting, XML, AJAX and so on..
I am not in a position to fix a schedule and go to classes, so i am looking for a method to learn them online FOR FREE.
Is this possible? if so where can i learn it online? and what would be the best way to proceed with this?
rather than reading from books, it would be much helpful, if they were a sort of structured course for learning by yourself (or) learn by doing type…

Your Questions About Blogging Tips

Lisa asks…
When you’re looking for the best blogging tips from expert bloggers, who do you turn to?
I get overwhelmed by all of the excellent info about blogging that’s available. Give me the best of the best! I’m looking to take the advice of the ones who give actionable, easily implementable ideas that work. Names and website info please. Plus, the best tip they’ve given you that really works. Thanks!

webdesignerscotty answers:
Though, you will read and be approached by many so-called experts, who tell you how they made millions out of blogging and how you too can earn that much. In addition, they tell you blogging is all play and no work. But blogging is nothing like what most people tell others. It’s a serious hard work and the chances of success, to passionate people, are more or less the same as with other real world professions.
To get you a fair idea of blogging, from earning perspective, let I share with you some facts:
Before answering to your question, I want to put a fact: majority bloggers earn nothing, a small number earn something equivalent to a cup of coffee a day, rest make either modest or big money.
So when you ask “Can someone make a living out of blogging?” then the true answer is, even if very difficult, it’s possible. One can earn a living, and one can earn big money too. But why one limit the scenario to blogging, most professions and careers present the same picture, more or less.
Now let I give a preview of the earning potential of a blog:
If your idea is to earn by showing ads from ad programs like Adsense, Kontera, Adbrite etc. Then your earnings will depend on the number of clicks you manage to get on your displayed ads. On an average, if your blog content is good, means if the content shows good context ads, and if you have 300 blog visitors then you will have 2-6 clicks on your ads. Studies show ads on websites have a click ratio of around 2 percent. Thus for every 100 visitors one can expect to get 2 clicks on ads. Or in other words, out of 100 visitors to a blog, only 2 visitors click on an ad. This translates into, 1 or 1.2 dollars a day for a 300 visitor a day blog.
If your idea is to earn revenue by selling products through affiliate links; or sell your own products/services, then again, the earnings will depend on your blog traffic. And the chances of a visitor going for a buy, is again around 2 percent.
Keeping that in mind, it is possible with perseverance and commitment
Thanks

Jenny asks…
Video blogging tips: How do you talk into a camera?
Yea when I watch videos after I make a video, it seems very mundane.
Also, it’s really hard for me to stare and look at a camera and act like I’m talking to a person. I don’t know why. Any tips?
Also, I’m not good at acting. People say I don’t have enough “feeling” when acting.
So I don’t know how to make my blog any more interesting, or how to look directly into the camera for long periods of time without feeling weird.

webdesignerscotty answers:
This may sound really silly, but it works for a lot of people. Take a paper plate and cut a hole out of the middle. This is where you will attach your video camera lens. On the paper plate draw a face. Now when you talk to the camera it will feel like you are talking to a person. You could name your new plate-person-friend something silly. That way you will smile when you look at the camera. Also, you could just put a real person’s photo there – it works just as well. Good luck.

What are the top ten blogging tips for driving traffic ?
I would like to collects as much info as possible on this topic and add to my site.http://www.kenwong.com.au.
I have only just started this site but hey you have to start some where

webdesignerscotty answers:
For WordPress users…
Word Press already pings one service.
Here’s a lot more to add.
In WordPress just log in to the Admin Area,
Go to Options–> Writing, and at the bottom
you’ll see a text area under Update Services.
Paste the list below in there and click
Update Options.
After that, whenever you post to your blog
Wordpress automatically pings all the services for you.
Posting will be just a little slower due to
the amount of pings going on, but it’s worth the
wait because it’s free promotion for your blog.
You can add these websites in the list:
http://rpc.pingomatic.com
http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
http://www.bitacoles.net/ping.php
http://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2
http://www.blogpeople.net/servlet/weblogUpdates

I would also recommend going to
http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/
to submit your Feed URL to all the blog directories
manually, to initially get listed.
I also get quite a bit of traffic from these
Blog Directories.
http://www.blogmad.net/?ref=df8210aba318329
http://www.blogsoldiers.com/?rid=5165
All are free.
When your writing a post for your blog,
treat it just like an individual web page
your trying to optimize for the search engines.
Include the keywords in the title & body of the post.
Also, you want your post to look similiar to this…
Http://webmasterautomation.com/blog/2007/01/27/reciprocal-linking/
where the keywords are included in the url.
You do this under Options–>PermaLinks.
Then choose date & name based.
Hope this helps.

Your Questions About Web Programming Languages

Laura asks…
What are the best web programming languages to learn?
I’m just starting to learn programming. I already know html, but I want to expand on that. Where should I start? PHP? ASP?

webdesignerscotty answers:
Classic ASP is not practical anymore…sites that run on it are moving away from it, and sites are not really being developed in it. ASP.NET has a solid ground, however, and is a good framework to get into.
Here’s the thing: You’ll hear people tell you that both ASP.NET and PHP suck. They will do so for varied reasons (ASP.NET suffers from being a MS product, PHP suffers from being a language that rather goes its own way…and repeats the mistakes of languages of the past)
PHP is easier to implement. It is also more popular and being open source has a lot of public support and packages and modules you can plug into your site.
Remember, HTML is NOT a programming language, and it won’t help you program (although it gets you used to the term “syntax”, that’s really about it).

Charles asks…
What programming languages can be used to implement an application onto a website? Like in a web game…?
The ones I know can be used in web applications are:
- Perl
- Java
- Others… this is what I’m looking for.
Not like HTML, CSS, XHTML, or web programming languages. And also, what .NET languages can be used to program applications viewable on a webpage?

webdesignerscotty answers:
PHP
Flash
JavaScript

Helen asks…
What is the relationship between web programming languages and others like C,C++,and Java?
I’m so interested in knowing if there is a relationship between programming languages for us to design webpages and those developed to help software makers achieve their own business-based objectives.
Is there any way php, asp, scripts, and other kind of platforms have something to do with the most commonly used programming languages such as C,C++,Java ?

webdesignerscotty answers:
The general philosophy is the same. Personally learning VB and C++ made me think of web languages as a piece of cake.
As there is a wide range of web programming languages many of them vary from interpreted (ie. Javascript) to compiled (ie. Java) and also some use Object Oriented features.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpreted_language

Nancy asks…
What are the most in-demand web programming languages today?
I like all of the ones I’ve experimented with so far… PHP, PERL, AJAX, SQL, ASP.NET, JAVA, etc…
But I don’t want to spread myself too thin. I want to focus on 2 (maybe 3) languages that are most in-demand, or worth the most money.
I’m still in college and I’m trying to increase my self value before I graduate
Thanks in advance

webdesignerscotty answers:
You might want to strongly consider .NET and JAVA. As a (IT services) business owner, I can attest that those qualifications are always in demand. It would be a good idea to understand SQL commands also, but potentially not as lucrative, which you listed as part of your criteria.
PHP is popular, but very easy to implement, therefore it is sometimes more competitive. But the number of sites using PHP and MySQL continue to increase as well.
Good luck.

Paul asks…
What are the best web programming languages to learn if i want to do free lance web programming?
I’m particularly concerned with developing well functioning visually attractive websites.

webdesignerscotty answers:
Visually attractive is done using graphics so you need to become a graphical artist first.
As for programming, well HTML (which is technically a formatting language) comes first. Then Javascript or VBScript. Javascript is more widely used.
Server side processing depends on the server you are using but perl is very popular.
PHP is a complete web processing language which includes server side processing.
ASP is similar but not used as much as PHP.
To display your graphics you may want to learn about flash programming.
Java can also be used for web design and programming. With java you need to learn JSP.
Then once you have created your web page you may need data to make the page more dynamic.
This is done using SQL on a relational database like MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
Learn all that and you may be able to call yourself a professional web designer.
Have fun.

Your Questions About Web Design Templates

Sharon asks…
What is the best place to get inexpensive but good looking web design templates?
I know nothing about web design. I wanted to purchase a template from bludomain.com, but I can’t get anyone over there to call me. I need a template that is easy to use and customize.

webdesignerscotty answers:
There are a ton of choices for web design templates, just Google “web design templates”. My question is how are you going to customize and use it if you don’t know anything about web design? You may want to consider using blogging sites for your site because the “themes” for blogs are fantastic plug and play web design templates

Helen asks…
How do I edit web design templates to make it look how I want it to look?
I am working on a web site for a client and I will be working with a web template I downloaded for the first time. are there any tutorials or web site helpers that can help me figure out how to edit the web template to look how i would desire it to look. or if you have advise on how to edit the template and put my own images and text to it could you please help!

webdesignerscotty answers:
You need an HTML editor or you can use notepad if you know html.
If not, look for a “WYSIWYG” editor. They will help you edit the pages graphically.
Also, you will need photoshop or GIMP to edit images. Just play around with it till you end up with something you like. Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS though are what you’d need for editing templates.

Daniel asks…
Opening a web design studio or a web templates site?
What do you think would be easier to sell web design… by opening a web design studio (if a client comes start the design from zero) or by creating a templates site where if the clients like any design they can just download it at a price?

webdesignerscotty answers:
Hi, I think both ideas are great
With your studio you are acting as a contractor and getting your clients. With a shop, you just make the templates and put them out for people to download (you still have to do some internet marketing to get people there). The best way is to make some of your templates FREE and in your template put a link back to your site. That way if they use it, you get backlinks to your site.
